As an athlete, Jim McConnel started racing bikes back at the tender age of 19. First it was mountain bikes, then road and then mixing cyclo cross and even some efforts on the track with a tandem partner.
Since 2000 Jim has focused his efforts on learning to swim and moved to Offroad Triathlon. The XTERRA World Tour caught his eye and in 2006 he went full time to compete all over the world.
In 2008 Jim was lucky enough to return to the World Championships in Maui and finish in a very strong 21st place.
In his 3rd season he was on the road again and visited Guam and Saipan in the Pacific ocean – collecting a 2nd and 5th place along the way and then compete back in Europe later in the year with several good finishes in Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic.
The main thing for Jim has been his horizons – never holding back to go to the limit, to take his racing to new places, meet and embrace new people and cultures. Above all a chance to experience life. Being an athlete at this level comes with a lifestyle that is both energetic, fun and pure. This is something that Jim tries to communicate to all the athletes he mentors on a coaching basis.
