Name: Jim McConnel

DOB: 21-07-73

Grew up: Taunton, Somerset

First triathlon: Windsor Sprint in 2000.

Background:

I started by running at school. I got shin splints and turned to riding bikes. I was racing bikes back before I was 20. First it was mountain bikes, but I went on to explore road bikes, TT and cyclo cross.

When triathlon started to pick up momentum around the millenium, I got interested and entered my first – Windsor Sprint in 2000. I went on to develop and moved to offroad triathlon in 2006, which suited my bike skills and love of nature and the countryside. I was lucky enough to take time out from working in 2007 and went full time to compete all over the world on the XTERRA World Offroad Triathlon circuit.

In 2008 I raced as a Pro at the World Championships in Maui and finished in a very happy and positive 21st place. 2009 also saw an extended season, I travelled in the Pacific and US racing and visiting new places. The year didn’t go to plan with rotator cuff and achilles injuries limiting my best performances.

Refreshed and recovered in 2010, a new approach – I’m focusing on Europe and the UK for my racing fix. There’s plenty to see and do close by and I’m excited to race with friends around the circuit. Check out my results page for the schedule.

See you out there!
Jim
